Commedia D’el Arte plays.. My group’s play
Now. I enjoyed this task for the most part of it. I must admit I found it a bit tricky - it was really stepping out of my comfort zone. At times I found it difficult to really grasp the Zanni’s character and not just base it on some modern figure that i can relate to myself. I think (hope) that I did catch on at some point to the Commedia D’el Arte style and technique, as unfamiliar as it may have been.
The way we worked as a group definately could have been better. I found that during the process of putting the play together the whole group wasn’t genuinly interested in preparing the play - blocking it and working our queues etc. It would have been better had every member of the group put in equally because it was a group piece and no individual can do it by themself. Everyone did put in, but some people only incorporated ideas when they felt like it. I think if we had all sorted out the basics at our first rehearsals then we wouldn’t have been so stressed and unorganised at the end. We probably procrastinated a bit. If all members of the group had been really enthusiastic about the play and about doign it really well then I think it would have had the potential to be a really good performance. Which maybe it was I really have no idea how it was from an audience member’s perspective. Anyway I definately think that there are some aspects of our production process which could have been better but hopefully we’ll know for next time. When it came down to just ebfore the performance we felt a lot of pressure which could have effected our performance, but i guess it’s just a learning process and we needed to experience this in order to know that its not the right way to go. However, I think all in all we pulled it off, did a good job and had fun! Always important!
